To analyse the simple cycle, we have to assume certain facts.
These assumptions are:
(a) Compression and expansion are isentropic.
(b) Heat addition process in the combustion chamber and the heat rejection process are assumed to take place at constant pressure.
ADVERTISEMENTS:
(c) There is no pressure loss in the combustion chamber, connecting pipes, and heat exchangers.
(d) The working fluid is assumed to be perfect or ideal gas and that the composition of the fluid does not change during its passage through the cycle.
(e) The flow of fluid is steady flow and the mass flow is constant throughout the cycle is constant.
(f) Other losses during the operation of the machine/turbine are absent. (Frictional loses at the bearings etc. are assumed to be absent).
ADVERTISEMENTS:
(g) The velocities of the gas flowing between the two components remain constant.
With these assumptions we will analyse the Joule/Brayton cycle. Consider 1 kg of fluid.
