Following tools are used in the common plumbing works up to medium size (10 cm) pipes: 1. Hacksaw 2. Pipe Cutter 3. Pipe Vice 4. Pipe Bending Machine 5. Threading Dies 6. Pipe Wrench 7. Chain-Wrench 8. Adjustable Wrench 9. Water Pump Pliers 10. Set of Common Spanners and Ring Spanners.
Tool # 1. Hacksaw:
It is used for cutting of pipes. Figure 24.1 shows a hacksaw commonly used. It essentially consists of a frame handle, prongs, tightening screw and nut. The blade is fixed in position and tightened by means of the tightening screw.
Tool # 2. Pipe Cutter:
Pipe cutter may be solid, hook type or chain type.

Figure 24.2. shows a solid type pipe cutter. It essentially consists of two fixed reels and one adjustable cutting reel, which is adjusted by means of threaded spindle.
The pipe to be cut is placed in the position and the movable cutting reel is tightened over it. Now the whole cutter is given a rotation around the pipe, the reels cut the pipe up to a depth. The adjustable reel is again tightened and the cutter is rotated. This process is continued, till the pipe is cut.
Tool # 3. Pipe Vice:
Figure 24.3 shows a pipe vice. It is used for fixing the pipe is position while cutting or threading the pipe.
Tool # 4. Pipe-Bending Machine:
Figure 24.4 shows a pipe bending machine, hydraulically operated. It essentially consists of two adjustable bending blocks. The third dolly block is pressed by means of hydraulic jack and bends the pipe according to the requirements.
Tool # 5. Threading Dies:
Set of pipes dies for threading are used for threading as the pipes. For joining the threading is done at each end of the pipe.
Tool # 6. Pipe-Wrench:
Figure 24.5 shows a pipe wrench commonly used for tightening and unscrewing of the pipe up to 7.5 cm diameter pipes. These pipe wrenches are manufactured from 50 to 60 cm length. The jaw of this pipe has one fixed jaw and one adjustable jaw as shown in the figure. The teeth are provided on the jaws to hold the pipe in position and prevent its slipping while tightening.
Tool # 7. Chain-Wrench:
Fig. 24.6. shows a chain-wrench. It is used for screwing and unscrewing of large diameter pipes. It is also very common tool of plumbing.
Tool # 8. Adjustable Wrench:
Figure 24.7. shows an adjustable wrench. It is used for screwing and unscrewing of small diameter pipes. It can also be used in tightening of nuts of bolts, fixing of small taps, valves, etc. in the pipe lines.
Tool # 9. Water Pump Plier:
Figure 24.8 shows a water pump plier. It is used in house-plumbing work. It is the most common tool used in the plumbing work.
Tool # 10. Set of Common Spanners and Ring Spanners:
Set of ring spanners and common spanner are required in the plumbing work for various tightening works of cocks, valves, etc.
